Civil Litigation and Opinions

Provide legal advice on legislation administered by Ministries and Corporations

  • Represent government bodies in civil claims before the Supreme, District and Appeal Courts as well as Tribunals to ensure all parts of Government act in accordance with the law
  • Participate in committees and working parties to ensure all legal requirements are satisfied
  • Review and draft all government contracts and deeds as well as other legal documents to ensure protection of government interests
  • Participate on negotiations relating to any contracts, agreements, credit facilities and undertakings required of government

Quick Facts

There are Three legal divisions (Legislative Drafting, Commercial and International matters as well as the Civil Litigation and Opinions)vision), and one support division (Corporate Services). All these Divisions work together to achieve the results and performance measures outlined above.


There are plans in the pipeline for the three legal divisions to be headed by Deputy Attorney Generals. Below them will be Assistant Attorney Generals. The Civil Division will have two sections comprising of:
(a) Civil Litigation, Opinions and Human Rights; and
(b) Commercial and International Relations.
